| Before
writing this note, I scrolled through
comments made by prior guests. I believed
that my experience at La Mariposa must
have been uniquely wonderful. But those
same words which I intended to use ("exhilarating",
"great fun", "fantastic
horses", "relaxed atmosphere",
"idyllic", "friendly grooms",
"personalized coaching", "made
to feel like family", "exceptional",
"accommodating") are repeated
time and again by others. How fortunate
we are to have experienced similarly wonderful
times.
I was first exposed to polo shortly after
moving to England - exposed to England's
strict rules and procedures, time constraints,
and criticism - but I was hooked nonetheless.
At La Mariposa I developed a passion for
the sport, a passion that came from learning
by doing, without limitation or constraint,
in a friendly and fun yet challenging
and competitive atmosphere. I improved
considerably.
Before arriving, I wondered how I would
spend my evenings - not anticipating Mariano's
guitar playing, chatting around the campfire,
post-tournament celebrations, and walking
under star filled skies - and so I requested
tango lessons. Mariano didn't miss a beat
- not just lessons, but a lively performance
by the local townspeople in full traditional
costume.
After ten unforgettable days, I bid fond
farewell ... but the magic of La Mariposa
drew me back more quickly than expected.
Only a few days later, I called my travel
agent from Buenos Aires to change my flights
and extend my stay ... then I called Mariano
- and of course he was accommodating yet
again.
